2024 marks a major milestone for Oasis, celebrating 30 years since the release of their debut album and their first visit to Japan. To commemorate this special anniversary, the new exhibition will explore the band’s lasting appeal and unique legacy from multiple angles.
In 2014, the first Oasis exhibition in Japan, ‘CHASING THE SUN: OASIS 1993 – 1997 – What Oasis Means to You?,’ was a huge success, drawing 10,000 visitors despite its brief four-day run. Now, ten years later, this new exhibition will feature many rare items not included last time, such as the band’s instruments, handwritten lyrics, and iconic early posters.
The exhibition will include a photo spot recreating album artwork and a space where visitors can relive past live performances, providing a deep dive into the enduring appeal of Oasis and their memorable songs. Titled after ‘Live Forever,’ which Noel Gallagher has described as a “timeless masterpiece” and his most important song, the exhibition is set to open with tickets available for purchase in early September.
Oasis has sold over 75 million records worldwide. Although the band stopped performing together in 2009, their song ‘Wonderwall’ made history in 2020 as the first 90s track to reach 1 billion streams globally. According to a 2023 BBC report, their albums ‘Morning Glory’ and ‘Definitely Maybe’ ranked first and second in the ‘Most Streamed 90s Albums in the UK.’ In Japan, their music continues to be featured in films, television, and commercials.
