Tokyo EDITION Ginza

Just off Chou Street, Ginza’s main shopping avenue where luxury brands and fine-dining establishments sit side by side, a hidden gem of a hotel has emerged. Introducing the Tokyo EDITION Ginza, the 19th EDITION Hotel globally. Following the opening of Toranomon location in October 2020, this marks the luxury hotel brand’s second establishment in Tokyo.

The space, carefully crafted by world-renowned Japanese architect Kengo Kuma and incorporating the vision of American hotelier Ian Schrager, features a total of 86 guest rooms, including 10 suites. Additionally, there are unique amenities such as a lobby bar, rooftop bar, Japan’s only cocktail bar specializing in punch, a modern brasserie, and a fully equipped gym with state-of-the-art machines.

Opening Party – Tokyo Takeover

The party at Tokyo EDITION Ginza on March 14th was held across the Lobby Bar on the 1st floor and the Punch Room on the 2nd floor. The Lobby Bar, situated right inside the entrance, exudes an elegant ambiance with its gold-themed decor, ivory-upholstered armchairs, and spacious sofas. It typically functions as a café and bar, offering locally roasted coffee, pastries, fresh-pressed juices, and even breakfast all day long.

As you ascend the staircase, you’ll find the Punch Room cocktail bar, inspired by 19th-century private clubs in London. It boasts spacious sofas, low tables, and warm lighting, creating an incredibly cozy and inviting atmosphere. With both urban sophistication and classical elements, it strikes a perfect balance between grandeur focal points and subtle touches.

At the party, many guests were seen mingling between the Lobby Bar and the Punch Room, indulging in cocktails crafted in the style of authentic punch bowls and enjoying delectable appetizers.

At the hotel’s 14th-floor modern brasserie, Sophie at EDITION, guests enjoyed dinners crafted from seasonal ingredients sourced directly from local producers. Celebrities from both domestic and international scenes savored their meals, and a photocall was held in front of magenta-colored light boxes featuring artwork by ISC and VISTO.
Among the guests were Kengo Kuma, the architect behind the hotel’s design, globally acclaimed creative director John C Jay, designer TOMO KOIZUMI, and burlesque queen Dita Von Teese.

On the following day, the 15th, the celebration shifted to Toranomon, where dinner was served at The Jade Room + Garden Terrace, the signature restaurant of Tokyo EDITION Toranomon led by Michelin-starred British chef Tom Aikens. Meanwhile, at Gold Bar at EDITION, DJs including Mademoiselle Yulia, YOSHIROTTEN, PELI, Aimee Phillips, and Nick Grimshaw kept the party going until dawn.

In the midst of a growing number of compact and urban boutique hotels, Tokyo EDITION Ginza manages to preserve the elegance and charm of luxury accommodations. Yet, its unadorned entrance exudes an inviting and casual intimacy, adding a distinctly contemporary touch. It offers a unique blend of the old and the new, seamlessly intertwining the cutting edge of the world with traditional Japanese culture. The opening party was an exhilarating evening, significantly filled with anticipation for the revitalization of Ginza’s nightlife scene, all starting from Tokyo EDITION Ginza.
