On Sunday, October 19, 2025, a one-night-only special concert, AMBIENT in Nature™︎, will be held at the Okumiya (Inner Sanctuary) of Kifune Shrine.

Kifune Shrine is the head of roughly 2,000 water shrines across Japan, dedicated to the water deity revered as the source of all life. Its founding dates back over 1,300 years, with records showing the shrine buildings were already being rebuilt in the sixth year of the Hakuhō era, a period from the mid-7th century to around 710 CE known characterized by a flourishing of Buddhist art. This makes Kibune Shrine one of Japan’s most historically significant shrines.

According to legend, the yellow boat carrying Tamayorihime-no-Mikoto, a moon deity in Japanese mythology, was wrapped in stones to keep it out of sight, and it is still enshrined beside the moss-covered Okumiya main hall. Directly beneath the hall lies a large hole called the Ryūketsu. The shrine was built above this hole, which is considered so sacred that no one is allowed to see it. Kifune Shrine’s Ryūketsu is regarded as one of the three greatest Ryūketsu sites in Japan.

The inaugural AMBIENT in Nature™︎ will be held at Kifune Shrine’s Okumiya, with the performance set in a mesmerizing atmosphere lit by more than 100 traditional Japanese candles.
About AMBIENT in Nature™︎

AMBIENT in Nature™︎ is an ambient live performance held deep in the surrounding forest, where the focus is not human-centered but nature-centered. The music blends with the natural environment, highlighting the sounds of birds, insects, wind, and rain, while the performers let the rhythms of nature guide their playing.
The performance will feature seven artists: four members of Hōgaku 2.0, led by Japanese guitarist Yukihiro Atsumi, sho player Tokiko Ihara, human beatboxer SHOW-GO, and sound engineer KND. Tickets are required for entry, and a portion of the proceeds will be donated to the Kifune Mountain Restoration Fund.
Listening to the night at Kifune Shrine, with its history of over a thousand years, one can only imagine being enveloped in a symphony where every rustle, chirp, and whisper of the forest becomes part of the music.
