The New BASE LAYER HOTEL Fukuoka Redefines the Modern Business Hotel Experience

Fukuoka is a highly accessible city where airports, stations, and entertainment districts are all close at hand, while lush nature can be accessed with just a 30-minute drive. Often described as one of Japan’s most compact cities, it offers seamless access to work, living, and leisure. In April 2026, BASE LAYER HOTEL Fukuoka opened here, built around the concept of a foundational hotel supporting comfortable stays and urban exploration. It offers a next-generation take on the business hotel, one where guests can unwind while freely enjoying the city, whether traveling for work or leisure.

Comfortable Stays for Both Urban Adventures and Quiet Retreats

Conveniently located just an 8-minute taxi ride from JR Hakata Station or a 7-minute walk from Watanabe-dori Station on the subway, the hotel offers excellent access. Lively areas such as Yakuin, known for its stylish shops and restaurants, and Tenjin, lined with Fukuoka’s iconic food stalls, are all within walking distance. It’s an ideal base for fully enjoying the city on foot. The modern building stands out with its distinctive façade, featuring white as a base with orange accents. This marks the second BASE LAYER HOTEL location, following its debut in Nagoya in 2025.

The hotel offers seven types of guest rooms, accommodating a wide range of stays, from trips with friends and couples’ getaways to family vacations and business travel. For business trips, the Double Room is a convenient choice, featuring a compact and functional layout with a playful design touch. Thoughtful details add to its appeal, such as smart storage solutions and customizable features for a more comfortable stay. For group travel, options include the Family Room, which can accommodate up to six guests, and the spacious 50㎡ Comfort Four Room. Each room features Japanese-modern interiors furnished with pieces designed by interior designer Shigeru Uchida.

Sauna enthusiasts will appreciate the Sauna Twin Room, a fully equipped space featuring two-tier benches, a button-operated löyly system, a cold bath, and a relaxation area. The beds are fitted with advanced, sleep science-based bedding to ensure a deeply comfortable rest after a session. While Fukuoka is full of places to explore, the temptation to stay in and indulge in a full sauna experience is hard to resist. With capacity for up to four guests, it’s also perfect for group trips with fellow sauna lovers.

Premium Amenities and Smart, Modern Features

The hotel also places emphasis on its in-room amenities. Bed linens, pajamas, towels, and bath mats are provided in every room by the American brand Fruit of the Loom, known for its comfort in everyday wear. This marks the first time the brand has been used in a hotel. In select rooms, bath amenities such as shampoo and body wash are sourced from athletia, a brand dedicated to sustainable, environmentally conscious products.

If athletia piques your interest, be sure to stop by the sixth-floor “Skin Lab,” an experiential space showcasing the brand’s full lineup. You can freely try items such as eau de parfum and deodorant mist, letting the soft, calming scents gently melt away the fatigue of your journey.

In front of the first-floor reception is an unmanned convenience store, “BL MART.” It operates on a cashless system, allowing guests to enter and make payments seamlessly using a dedicated smartphone app. Inside, you’ll find a curated selection of items, including drinks chosen by Kawakubo Liquor Store, local Kyushu snacks, original BASE LAYER HOTEL goods, and travel essentials such as Jason Markk shoe care kits. With its thoughtfully curated lineup, it feels less like a typical convenience store and more like a select shop. It’s also a convenient spot for picking up small souvenirs, and is open 24 hours to anyone, not just hotel guests.

The smooth, automated check-in at the front desk is a pleasant surprise. By simply scanning the QR code sent via email at the time of booking, guests can check in easily using just their smartphone. Room access is also handled via a QR code or passcode, eliminating the hassle of forgetting, losing, or handing over a key. As long as your phone is on hand, there’s no need to rummage through your bag or pockets, making coming and going feel seamless and effortless.

The first-floor “Community Lounge_Cafe & Bar” is a welcoming space open to all. Its sound system, developed through a collaboration between New York sound designer Devon Turnbull’s OJAS and Norwegian speaker brand NNNN, fills the space with rich, immersive sound. Guests can relax to the music while enjoying a changing atmosphere throughout the day: breakfast sourced from local shops in the morning (reservation required), a café with curated coffee by day, and a bar serving drinks selected by Kawakubo Liquor Store by night. Its open, friendly vibe makes it an ideal spot for a break between outings.

While enjoying a comfortable stay at the hotel, you’ll likely want to make the most of Fukuoka’s vibrant city life. If you’re unsure where to go, check out “YOUR CITY IS GOOD?“, a local culture media platform curated by BASE LAYER HOTEL. It features a selection of recommended spots from culturally attuned locals, including editors, shop owners, and artists who live and work in the city.

There’s also big news: this autumn, a new on-site space titled “BLH BACKYARD” is set to open. Plans include a street kitchen with yatai-style food unique to Fukuoka, along with a stylish Pool & Sauna area. The inclusion of food stalls, a sauna, and a pool makes for a truly unique concept, adding a fresh dimension to the typical business hotel stay.

Equipped with cutting-edge smart systems and a high level of comfort, the hotel continues to introduce playful and unique ideas, making it a place that promises to elevate any stay in Fukuoka.
