37 Unique Stores Officially Open at Shibuya Sakura Stage

‘Shibuya Sakura Stage,’ the vibrant new development covers about 2.6 hectares next to Shibuya Station and is conveniently located near Daikanyama and Ebisu. On July 25, 2024, its new stores officially opened. The commercial area now boasts 37 new shops and restaurants, enhancing the local landscape.

Shibuya Sakura Stage is divided by a road into two sections: the SHIBUYA side, featuring SHIBUYA Tower and Central Building, and the SAKURA side, which includes SAKURA Terrace and SAKURA Tower. The upper floors of SHIBUYA Tower and Central Building house office spaces, while the lower floors are dedicated to a vibrant commercial area, now home to a large variety of unique shops.

4th Floor ‘Sakuyon’ – Restaurants & Cultural Hub

The 4th floor on the SHIBUYA side, known as ‘Sakuyon’ is a space where culture and food come together to foster new connections. It features one of the largest bookstores in the Shibuya area, ‘TSUTAYA BOOKSTORE,’ along with a shared office space called SHARE ‘LOUNGE’ and ‘404 Not Found,’ a hub for indie creators. The layout of work areas and creative spaces encourages a seamless blend of interests, hobbies, and professional activities.

The restaurant area features a food hall called ‘FOOD MET.’ With a total of 17 diverse establishments, it’s designed to evoke the feeling of a new ‘shopping street’ in Sakuragaoka. Directly across from the previously mentioned 404 Not Found, you’ll find six unique shops collectively named ‘Shibuya By STREET,’ which collectively create a lively atmosphere. Each venue—ranging from a casual sushi spot with soul music to a live kitchen-style steakhouse and a Mexican restaurant famous for its homemade tortillas—offers a specialty experience while maintaining a friendly and inviting vibe.

Additionally, further along is ‘404 Kitchen,’ a counter-only restaurant that serves as a space for aspiring food creators looking to advance their culinary journey. For those who are looking to start their own restaurants, here they can take up the challenge by testing out their culinary skills and menus. So you can enjoy a variety of dishes crafted by different chefs on a limited-time basis.

As you venture further in, you’ll discover an area reminiscent of a food court called ‘SHIBUYA SAKURAGAOKA BEER HALL.’ At its heart is ‘SHIBUYA BREWERY,’ which serves beer brewed on-site. You can also enjoy ‘CielPizza,’ where Chef Murata from the Michelin one-star restaurant ‘LATURE’ offers his unique take on Japanese style pizza. Additionally, there’s ‘Stand Phở You,’ a new brand from the popular Vietnamese restaurant ‘Stand Banh Mi,’ featuring pho and spice curry, as well as ‘Prefrit Tokyo,’ a bistro-style eatery specializing in fried chicken and drinks. With a total of eight diverse establishments to explore, you’ll be stuck for options.

3rd Floor – Shops & Event Space

The shops include the first global flagship store for Kanebo Cosmetics’ makeup brand ‘KATE,’ as well as character merchandise stores like ‘Sanrio’ and ‘Characolle.” The event spaces ‘BLOOM GATE’ and ‘Nigiwai STAGE’ provide experiences showcasing the latest digital effects, including augmented reality (AR) technology.

At the KATE global flagship store, there are plenty of unique services that makeup enthusiasts won’t want to miss. You can try all the shades of the “Lip Monster” lipstick, including exclusive web-only colors. Additionally, you can experience the ‘KATE iCON BOX,’ a digital experience that uses AI technology and proprietary theories to analyze your facial features and provide a personalized selection of four eyeshadow colors, delivered like a vending machine.
Visiting with friends is bound to be a fun experience… though makeup lovers should be prepared as weekends are sure to bring long lines.

2nd Floor – Food and Culinary Shops

The second floor, easily accessible from the station, features shops designed to enhance the convenience of those who work, play, and live in Shibuya. At ‘KALDI Coffee Farm,’ you can find coffee beans and imported foods, along with takeout options for bread and sandwiches. ‘CHEEAT TOKYO’ supports local communities and producers, providing a fun way to discover a variety of ingredients, much like a curated select shop. There’s also a ‘Tokyu Store’ supermarket, making it easy to grab dinner on your way home from work.

Additionally, the first floor is home to unique spots like ‘Shibuya Kacchan Ramen’ and the impersonation show pub ‘DAIKON,’ while the basement features the total beauty salon ‘HAIR DRESSER by atelier haruka.’ From July 25 onward, various events will take place throughout the facility as part of the opening celebrations, so be sure to check the official website for more details.

If you’re traveling by JR, you can easily reach the new South Exit of Shibuya Station, which is just a short walk away, so you won’t have any trouble finding it. For those using the subway, there’s a connecting passage on the 3rd floor of ‘Shibuya Stream’ making that route quite convenient.
