KEIRIN HOTEL 10 : An Exclusive Velodrome-Integrated Hotel and Gateway to the Setouchi Triennale

KEIRIN HOTEL 10 is a bold new property in a surprising location. It was brought to life by Onko Chishin, the team known for reinterpreting the history and culture of Japan through the lens of contemporary luxury. The name refers to the hotel’s direct connection to Tamano Keirin, the only velodrome in the Okayama region. These tracks are home to the high-speed world of keirin (競輪) racing, the professional track cycling sport that originated in Japan.

Of the 149 rooms, 126 face the track, giving guests an up-close view of the dynamic training scenes below. Beyond the velodrome, the scenery opens up to the Seto Inland Sea, offering a rare combination of high-speed excitement and serene ocean views.

Tamano Velodrome has been a beloved part of the local community since it opened in 1950. As the facilities aged, plans emerged to rethink how the buildings were used, including repurposing the athletes’ dormitories that were only used on race days. This led to the idea of creating a hotel integrated with the stadium. At first, lighter concepts like an art hotel or a bicycle-themed hotel were considered, but after the team from Onko Chishin experienced the thrill and energy of a keirin race firsthand, they decided to make keirin the central theme. The 10 in the hotel’s name refers to the fact that keirin races usually feature nine riders, inviting guests to become the 10th racer during their stay.

The hotel’s design also pays tribute to the velodrome’s rich history of over 70 years. Materials salvaged from the old velodrome have been creatively reused in the interiors and furniture, and art pieces inspired by keirin’s culture and history are scattered throughout. The result is a space that feels like a keirin museum, connecting the past, present, and future through culture and memory.

During their stay, guests can enjoy watching keirin races on race days as well as attend lectures that provide a deeper understanding of the sport, offering a unique experience not found in typical sightseeing. The restaurant overlooking the track serves dishes that highlight the local terroir using Okayama Wagyu beef raised in the region’s rich climate and fresh fish caught from the Seto Inland Sea. Exclusive to hotel guests, a creative multi-course dinner is also available. On days without races, guests can unwind in the large communal bath and adjoining sauna, enjoying a wellness experience that relaxes both body and mind.

The hotel is just a quick five-minute drive from Uno Port, the ferry terminal for islands like Naoshima and Teshima in the Seto Inland Sea. With the Setouchi Triennale 2025 taking place this year, it makes an ideal base for exploring the islands and their amazing contemporary art.

A standout experience this summer is the special sunset cruise. While the boat can hold up to 25 people, they limit it to only 10 guests for a more relaxed and spacious feel. From the large deck, you can be at ease as you listen to the waves and feel the sea breeze while soaking in the beautiful evening views. The cruise takes a unique route around Naoshima that regular tours do not offer. This offers rare views of the island’s coastline and a stunning sight of Yayoi Kusama’s famous Red Pumpkin sculpture from the water. After the excitement of keirin racing, this calm and scenic cruise is the perfect way to balance out your day at KEIRIN HOTEL 10.
