A Blissful Escape at Atami Pearl Star Hotel, Where the Sky Meets the Sea

Atami has long attracted writers and artists, drawn to its distinctive scenery and sweeping views of Sagami Bay. In recent years, the area has also gained popularity with international travelers, often as part of a journey to Mount Fuji. We’ve previously featured spots like the Curation Hotel, but this time we’d like to introduce a new place to stay: the Atami Pearl Star Hotel, located along Sun Beach, the city’s main shoreline.

Opened in September 2022, this radiant new landmark gleams like a pearl on the coast.

The hotel’s biggest highlight is its guest rooms, each offering a full ocean view of Sagami Bay. Every room comes with its own private onsen, fed by a natural hot spring drawn from 220 meters underground. For those looking to indulge, the Premier Suite Ocean View ROTEN is a standout, with over 120 square meters of space. Designed like a split-level villa, the suite features a blend of modern Japanese style, including a living area, a tatami room, and two twin bedrooms. It also has a fully equipped kitchen, making it ideal for longer stays and allowing guests to relax as if in a private home. Step out into the open space and you’ll find the ocean stretching endlessly ahead, its appearance shifting with the time of day. Ships passing on the horizon and distant island silhouettes create a view that feels like a scene from an old film.

To end on a sweet note, head to the first-floor Lounge Ocean Breeze for a summer afternoon tea that celebrates the season’s freshest fruits. The star of the menu is the “Crown Melon and Kannami Watermelon Afternoon Tea,” featuring two of Shizuoka’s most prized specialties.

The Crown Melon, often called the king of fruit, is cultivated in Shizuoka’s warm climate and fertile soil under meticulous care. Known for its exceptional sweetness, texture, and aroma, it’s highly sought after both in Japan and around the world. The Kannami watermelon, available only in summer, is a local favorite with a crisp bite and refreshing juiciness. These two fruits come together in a limited-time offering, beautifully arranged on a three-tiered stand.

The Crown Melon is showcased in a luxurious shortcake and a yogurt mousse layered with house-made melon compote. The Kannami watermelon appears in a coconut milk jelly and a mini parfait. After a peaceful soak in the infinity bath, where the sea and sky blend into one, this vibrant fruit-filled tea is the perfect way to refresh both body and spirit.
