A pop-up store has opened at SHIBUYA TSUTAYA to celebrate the CD release of ‘AKIRA REMIX,’ the first remix album produced by manga artist and film director Katsuhiro Otomo, as well as the launch of the second phase of OTOMO THE COMPLETE WORKS (Katsuhiro Otomo Complete Collection). The store will be open for a limited time, from September 28 to October 27, 2024.
AKIRA REMIX is a CD featuring remix tracks from AKIRA, originally played exclusively at the ‘Katsuhiro Otomo Complete Works AKIRA Cel Art Exhibition’ in the summer of 2023. Produced by Katsuhiro Otomo himself, the album also features newly drawn cover art.
On the B1 floor of SHIBUYA TSUTAYA, you’ll find the AKIRA REMIX album, OTOMO THE COMPLETE WORKS, as well as merchandise from the Katsuhiro Otomo Complete Works AKIRA Cel Art Exhibition, alongside original posters and exclusive goods celebrating the release of AKIRA REMIX.
It’s a rare opportunity to see such a wide variety of exclusive AKIRA merchandise all in one place, and fans are sure to be tempted to pick up several items. The posters, in particular, have been especially popular, with many visitors buying more than one.
Animation created for AKIRA REMIX is projected, showcasing Kaneda’s motorcycle speeding forward (see first photo).
Additionally, there will be a restock of collaboration items created with the apparel brand nana-nana to celebrate the release. The AKIRA REMIX T-shirts are available for pre-order via a QR code at the venue. This pop-up store is the only place where you can check out the samples and assess sizes and materials in-person, so if you’re interested, be sure to stop by. The tote bags will be sold in limited quantities on-site, and once they’re sold out, they will be available for online purchase.
After some deliberation, I decided to get the clear file and T-shirt from the Katsuhiro Otomo Complete Works: AKIRA Cel Art Exhibition, while still considering the poster.
